Will the National League Most Valuable Player (MVP) race eventually become a family affair? Matt Olson (28, Atlanta Braves) is on a roll, having set a new career high.
Through 109 games of the season through July 7, Olson is batting .264 with 39 home runs, 97 RBI, 84 runs scored, 109 runs batted in, a .370 OPS and a .975 slugging percentage.
In doing so, Olson tied his career high for home runs in a season, set in 2021, and moved within one of Shohei Ohtani (29) for the major league home run lead.
Olson broke out last month with an eight-homer, 1.093 OPS performance. That run has continued this month.
As a result, Olson’s season OPS is climbing. So far today, it’s 0.975, which is over 1.000. It’s already surpassed his previous mark of 0.911 from the 2021 season.
If he keeps this up, he could be the strongest MVP contender to Ronald Acuña Jr. (26). Olson is currently on pace for 57 home runs.
Of course, Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers are also strong MVP candidates. So far, it’s been a three-way race, and now we’ve added Olson to the mix.
If Olson can keep this momentum going and overtake Ohtani for the all-time major league home run lead, the MVP award is not out of the question.먹튀검증
Coming off a career-high season in the second year of a long-term deal with Atlanta, it will be interesting to see how far Olson’s incredible run can take him.
