Toronto Blue Jays Jose Berrios (29) struggled for the second straight game, dropping his 10th loss of the season.
Toronto lost 4-5 to the Washington Nationals on Tuesday (June 30) at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Berrios took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits (two homers) with two walks and two strikeouts in six innings. Berrios, who came to Toronto via trade, signed a seven-year, $131 million extension after the 2021 season. However, he has struggled a bit this season, going 9-10 with a 3.70 ERA in 27 games (158 innings). He has struggled in his last two starts, giving up five runs in back-to-back games.
At the plate, rookie Davis Schneider hit his sixth home run of the season and went 2-for-5 with two doubles, one home run, two RBIs, and one run scored. Santiago Espinal also had a multi-hit game, but came up short in the loss.
For Washington, starter Mackenzie Gore picked up her seventh win of the season, allowing one run on six hits (one home run) in five innings with two walks and two strikeouts. At the plate, Carter Keeboom (#3) and Keibert Lewis (#16) hit home runs.
The Nats opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when Dominic Smith singled and Carter Kivum followed with a two-run homer.
Toronto got a run back in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by Schneider.
The Nats took the lead for good in the top of the fifth when Lane Thomas and Joey Meneses led off with walks and a single, and Keyverton Lewis hit a three-run homer.
Toronto pulled within one in the bottom of the seventh when Kevan Biggio singled and stole second and Schneider followed with an RBI double. In the eighth, Danny Jansen singled and Alejandro Kirk doubled to put runners on second and third and scored on a wild pitch.메이저놀이터
In the ninth, Toronto continued to chase. Biggio and Kevin Kiermaier hit back-to-back singles and George Springer drew a walk. But with the bases loaded, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a single to center field to end the game.
