‘Blue Blooded Ace’ Won Tae-in (Samsung) shines with a perfect game.
Won Tae-in threw a six-inning no-hitter with a fastball that reached a maximum speed of 152 km/h against China in the second game of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games Super Round at the Shaoxing Baseball Stadium in Zhejiang, China, on Saturday (June 6). He didn’t allow a single run and struck out six. It was a true demonstration of what an ace can do.
The batters pounded out 16 hits, long and short, to ease Won’s shoulders. South Korea defeated China 8-1 and will face Chinese Taipei for the gold medal on Sunday.
“I wanted to get revenge for my performance against China in the first round of the WBC (March 13), when I gave up two runs on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts in one inning. It was a must-win game, and I took the mound with more responsibility than pressure,” Won said after the game.
China, hitherto the “fringe” of baseball, made an upset with a 1-0 victory over Japan on March 3 to top Group A and advance to the Super Round with a three-game sweep. It was an upset. “Beating Japan means we’re not going to take them lightly,” says Won. We knew that their offense wasn’t very good, so we went into the game thinking that we could win if we didn’t let our guard down.”
“I’ve been in good shape since the first game, and according to the power analysis part, I thought I could go with power at the beginning of the game today, so I threw fastballs,” said Won, who pitched four scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in the first game against Hong Kong. “In international tournaments, I tend to pitch with more power than control, but my coach cut me off at a good time,” he said.
On that day, Won’s fastball reached 152 kilometers. “My adrenaline was pumping and I had a strong feeling that I shouldn’t lose, so I gave it my all, and I think my speed came out well,” he said. “My goal was to not give up any hits, but I’m happy that I was able to pitch a no-hitter.”
“Going into today’s game, I wanted to pitch as many innings as I could and give Pilseung-jo some rest, and I’m happy that I did. Tomorrow, I’ll be on the bench cheering them on and making sure they win gold.”메이저놀이터
Won Tae-in, who had one goal in mind before the tournament: to win gold, said, “All of the players wanted to make up for the loss in the first match against Chinese Taipei. “After we lost that day, we all said in a mobile messenger group chat room, ‘Let’s make it to the final and get revenge. We want to win the gold medal.”
Won continued, “If the batters can score the first run like they did today, I think we’ll be able to take it easy because the mound is so solid. In the last game, we lost the momentum because we gave up the first run, but if we score first, we can win.”
