Mickey van der Vaart chose to join Tottenham Hotspur despite Virgil van Dijk’s persuasions.
Tottenham have been in great form this season. Before the start of the season, a top-four finish in the league was a realistic goal, but now they have their sights set on the title. They’ve lost their last two league games, halting their momentum a bit, but before that they were unbeaten in 10 league games and sitting at the top of the table.
There are a lot of people to thank for that. New manager Enze Postecoglou has led Spurs to a perfect blend of attacking football. Even against the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool, they never backed down and produced meaningful results, and even impressed the fans with a crazy tactic against Chelsea that saw them pull up the line despite having two men sent off.
The players are doing their bit too. Son Heung-min, who has been transformed into a ‘top’ in place of Harry Kane, is in peak form with eight goals in the league. Players who struggled last season, such as Yves Bissouma and Pape Matthassar, have become dominant in the middle of the park, while Pedro Foro is also showing off his attacking prowess.
The freshmen have also played a big role. James Maddison has filled the void left by Christian Eriksen perfectly. He has a fantastic partnership with Son Heung-min to lead the Spurs attack and is considered one of the best playmakers in the league right now. Guglielmo Vicario pulls his team back from the brink every game with spectacular saves, while Destiny Udogie is considered one of the best left-backs in the Premier League (PL).
We can’t forget about Van der Vaart. He overtook Eric Dier for the starting role shortly after arriving and has become a mainstay in the defense with his steady defense and build-up play. Forming a solid center-back duo with Cristian Romero has helped Tottenham stabilize a defense that has long been a problem.
Van der Vaart is currently rated as the best center back in the PL. Prior to his move to Spurs, Van der Vaart was also linked with Liverpool. “Liverpool were keen to find a partner for Van Dijk in the summer transfer window and were interested in Van der Vaart,” according to British outlet Team Talk. 무지개토토
Van Dijk even tried to convince van der Beek to join him. “Van Dijk spoke to his national teammate and tried to convince him to join Liverpool,” says Team Talk. However, Tottenham moved faster and sealed the deal.”
